What Are Gel-Paks?
The Gel Ice Production Unit includes everything you need to manufacture your own Gel-Paks. Water and the gel polymer are combined at specific ratios by the Gel-Pak Production Unit and, with the assistance of the operator, deposited into the Gel-Pak bag. The bags are sealed using the Impulse Sealer and are ready to freeze immediately.
A Gel-Pak is a cheap and reliable alternative to ice or sealed ice-blocks. Gel-Paks are filled with a polymer and water which are combined at specific ratios to create a gel. When frozen the gel sets in a dry ice which maintains its temperature for two to three times longer than standard ice.
A dry ice is often preferable in shipping, transport or storage environments where water can become a hazard or spoil the goods. Once the water is combined with the polymer to create the gel it cannot be released except by evaporation, making it ideal for industries or products that require chilling or low temperatures but cannot be come into contact with water. Gel-Paks have been used successfully in air freight (e.g. seafood), pharmaceutical transport, and pathology specimen delivery.
